INTRODUCTION
Most commonly used types of rope
Natural fibers: Jute, hemp, cotton — these are classic and preferred for traditional Shibari. They are known for their texture and how they grip the skin.
Synthetic fibers: Nylon, MFP, P.O.S.H., and Hempex — these are more durable, resistant to mildew, and often easier to maintain, but may not have the same "grip" or texture that some prefer for tying.
The rope used during the workshop was P.O.S.H., +- 8m long, 5mm thick.
You can buy it directly from a big supplier (touwbestellen) or contact me. Keep in mind that freshly bought P.OS.H. is much stiffer and thin in the beginning. It only becomes softer after a certain amount of use. I sell ready cut, flexible P.OS.H. for €15 per bundle.
DANGERS
Shibari can be innocent, but it can also be dangerous if you don’t know what to look out for.
Ropemarks, Ropeburns, Fainting, Falling, Panic or trauma triggers, Breathing restriction, Circulation loss, Nerve compression
A good reference for the dangers of ropebondage is crash-restraint.com and Rope Study Please check carefully before attempting more advanced ties.
